The formation of η-Ni3Ti phase microstructure in a cast nickel-based superalloy with high Ti/Al ratio

英文摘要By over-aging at 900 degrees C and 1000 degrees C, a high volume-fraction of eta-Ni3Ti phase was prepared in a cast nickel-based superalloy with high Ti/Al ratio. EBSD analysis shows that the eta phase obeys a SN-type orientation relationship with gamma matrix: <11 <(2)over bar> 0>(eta)//<1 <(1)over bar> 0>(gamma), {0001}(eta)//{111}(gamma). Four kinds of eta phase variants with a 70.5 degrees misorientation to each other are clarified. From the eta/gamma interface structure as detected by HRTEM, the thin plate-like morphology of eta phase is attributed to the preferential growth of the incoherent {11 (2) over bar 0}(eta)//{1 (1) over bar 0}(gamma) interface. The formation of eta phase at the grain boundary (GB) was by a discontinuous precipitation reaction, during which the original GB migrates from the eta-nucleating side into the adjacent grain following the elongation of eta phase to form a cellular structure. The detailed GB migration mechanism is investigated by EBSD and rationalized from the aspect of interface energy. For the formation of eta phase in grain interior, three relative reactions are clarified: (i) MC+gamma -> M23C6+OA-gamma ', OA-gamma '->eta, (ii) gamma -> M23C6+OA-gamma ', OA-gamma '->eta, and (iii) gamma '-> OA-gamma ', OA-gamma '->eta, where OA-gamma ' is the newly precipitated gamma ' phase during over-aging which shares a similar elemental distribution with eta. The intermediate phase OA-gamma ' is formed due to the comparably low nucleation barrier from gamma while its subsequent transformation to eta is excited by the higher thermodynamic stability of eta as revealed by the calculation results by using the VASP software. At last, as conformed by STEM-HAADF, the structure transformation of OA-gamma '->eta is aided by the introduce of superlattice intrinsic stacking faults.
