Exploring the impact of Al alloying on microstructure and hot nitric acid corrosion resistance of Ti-xAl (x=0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) alloys

| 英文摘要 | Enhancing the corrosion resistance of titanium alloys in hot nitric acid environments is imperative for advancing spent fuel reprocessing. Here, we explored the impact of Al alloying on microstructure and corrosion resistance of Ti-Al alloys via experimental assessments and theoretical computations. Results indicated that Al alloying induced a comparable Widmanstatten structure and increased hardness. Electrochemical findings demonstrated the optimal corrosion resistance for the alloy with 4 wt% Al. DFT computation presented the highest WF and the lowest EF for Ti-4Al alloy, indicative of superior thermodynamic stability. Eventually, a mechanistic understanding of Al alloying on nitric acid corrosion resistance was proposed. |
