英文摘要Differential image motion monitor is extensively utilized in measurement of atmospheric seeing. The overly simplified approximations in its classical theory require the ratio between baseline length and sub-aperture diameter to exceed two, which makes it difficult to miniaturize differential image motion monitor. This paper overcomes approximations in classical theory and extends differential image motion theory. The extended theory allows the ratio between baseline length and sub-aperture diameter to be smaller than two, even one. The difference between Zernike tilt (Z-tilt) and Gradient tilt (G-tilt) has been considered and studied in extended equations. The angle between baseline and wavefront tilt evaluation direction has been set to be arbitrary for generality. The influence of exposure time and wind has been further investigated for miniaturized differential image motion monitor. Two design examples of miniaturized differential image motion monitor has been presented and has been verified via numerical experiments. This study provides theoretical basis for design and application of miniaturized differential image motion monitor. © 2025 SPIE.
