Analysis on the wintering habitat use of waterbird Pied Avocet based on geo-tracking and remote sensing technology

英文摘要Understanding the activity patterns and the habitat use characteristics of waterbirds is of great value for their protection. Compared with traditional investigation methods, geo-tracking and remote sensing technologies have shown great technical advantages. Based on these technologies, this study analyzed the home range and habitat use of a common waterbird, Pied Avocet, during two consecutive wintering periods. The results showed that the Pied Avocet has variable survival strategies during the wintering period. All the geo-tracked individuals showed high fidelity to the wintering sites. Despite individual differences, they stayed in their own relatively fixed and not large habitat during the two consecutive wintering periods. Within the home ranges, two types of artificial wetlands, namely paddy fields and mariculture ponds, were the dominant land use types in terms of area proportion. The species' preferred habitat is shallow, low-lying areas characterized by flat terrain and sparse vegetation. In addition, the potential for disturbance in most of their habitats was high. Considering the distribution of the tagged individuals in different locations, analysis of their habitat use is still limited to understand the ecology of the species of Pied Avocet. This research can provide a scientific basis for the protection of the Pied Avocet's habitat and also has reference value for other species.
