| 英文摘要 | The urbanization process is tangibly represented by city size (CS), which significantly influences the evolution of economic efficiency of urban land use (EEULU). However, there is still no conclusive evidence on their relationship. To understand this issue, we used panel data from urban areas of 285 prefecture-level cities and above in China, assessing the quantitative impact of CS on EEULU. Moreover, based on the urban scaling law, we proposed a new urban scale-efficiency coupling index (USECI) to assess whether different CS levels match with EEULU. The results reveal that: (1) During 2006-2022, a notable growth in urban population was accompanied by a complex evolution of both CS and EEULU. (2) A significant positive correlation was found between CS and EEULU in China. The two-way fixed effects regression shows that a 1% increase in CS leads to an increase of 0.2918% in EEULU. The spatial Durbin model further indicates that CS has significant spatial spillover effects: in the long run, a 1% increase in CS will generally lead to an increase of about 0.8453% in the average value of EEULU in neighboring cities. (3) Cities with coordinated USECI were mostly distributed to the east of the Heihe-Tengchong Line, displaying a spatial distribution pattern characterized by high in the eastern region, relatively high in the western region, sporadically collapsed in the central region, and low in the northeast region. These findings can provide feasible suggestions for CS policies, land management strategies, and national spatial planning. This study emphasizes the need for policymakers to prioritize whether cities' performance has met their scale expectations over the absolute value of EEULU, providing a fresh perspective on measuring the spatiotemporal coupling between CS and EEULU. |
