英文摘要An abnormal Taylor cap (ATC) was observed around the Beipo seamount (BPS) in the South China Sea. Unlike previously observed Taylor caps, the ATC is located on the west side of the BPS, rather than at the summit, and deviates by approximately 20 km. Using a high-resolution regional ocean model, we reproduced and investigated the ATC. Numerical experiments revealed that the west deviation and vertical structure of the ATC are controlled by the background flow. A vorticity budget analysis further indicated that the ATC is maintained by a balance between advection and friction. Additionally, both the BPS and ATC contribute to the observed high subsurface chlorophyll concentrations in the region.
