英文摘要Plate tectonics drives the circulation of materials and heat between Earth's surface and deep interior, profoundly influencing the evolution of planetary habitability. Scientific debates on the timing of plate tectonics initiation and its evolutionary history have long polarized the Earth science community, with early 21" century scholars proposing contrasting extremes. Numerous studies once argued for an Archean to Paleoproterozoic onset of plate tectonics, with some even advocating a Hadean origin, while others persistently maintained a Neoproterozoic commencement. Recent years, however, a growing consensus has emerged, ie, most researchers now accept that modern-style plate tectonics emerged after the Neoproterozoic, while earlier tectonic regimes are recognized as distinct "early plate tectonics" or "proto-plate tectonics". Increasing evidence suggests that the localized and short-lived Archean subduction differed substantially from globally interconnected plate tectonic systems, potentially representing transitional phases between non-plate and plate-dominated geodynamics. This paper reviews the relevant arguments regarding the initiation time of plate tectonics, explains the origin of the contradictions, and describes the process of alleviation in recent debates. Meanwhile, the following aspects are also introduced in this paper, such as the progresses in using big data analysis of rock geochemistry to constrain the formation and evolution of plate tectonics, analyzing the era of the formation and style transitions of plate tectonics, and discussing the global impacts of the initiation of early and modern plate tectonics on magmatism, lithospheric structure, mantle temperature, and deep material cycling.
