Attosecond pulses emitted by a single energetic electron traversing an intense laser beam

中文摘要The attosecond x-ray pulse trains emitted by a single electron intersecting with an intense Gaussian laser beam have been investigated theoretically and numerically by use of Thomson scattering of free electrons. The temporal and spatial characteristics of the radiation are presented for different laser amplitude parameters a(0) (1-10) and initial energies of the electron gamma(0) (1-100MeV). It is found that the durations of the pulse trains and individual pulse depend significantly upon the laser beam width and intensity, as well as the electron energy. Specifically, the individual pulse duration, the separation between neighboring pulses, and the duration of the pulse profile are all proportional to 1/gamma(0)(2). The emission power and energy are proportional to gamma(0)(6) and Y-0(4), respectively. When changing the laser amplitude a(0), the radiation power is proportional to a(0), the individual pulse duration to 1/a(0), and the separation between pulses to a(0). When keeping the laser amplitude while changing the beam width w(0), the number of pulses in the profile, the duration of the pulse profile, and the emission energy are proportional to w(0). If the laser power is fixed while changing the beam width and intensity, the emission energy and profile duration of the emission pulse train are almost fixed. For a given laser amplitude a(0) = 1, a beam width w(0) equal to 2 laser wavelengths, and the initial electron energy of 10MeV, for example, the radiation profile of the pulse trains has a duration of 1.4 x 10(-3) tau(0), which is only a few attoseconds if the laser oscillation period tau(0) is a few femotoseconds.
