Hexagonal phases consisting of icosahedral chains/networks in (001) layers in Al-Cr-Si alloys

中文摘要 | In At-rich Al-Cr-Si alloys with a Si content less than or equal to10at.%, four hexagonal phases, beta (beta-Al9Mn3Si or phi-Al10Mn3 type), mu (mu-Al4Mn type), tau(mu) (Al66Cr28Si6, a = 3.23 nm, c = 1.24 nm), and lambda (lambda-Al4Mn type) have been found by means of transmission electron microscopy. All these phases give pseudo-five-fold electron diffraction patterns and high-resolution electron microscopic images. Together with the hexagonal H-(AlMnBe) with a = 1.2295 nm [Philos. Mag. A 82 (2002) 1495], a tau-inflation relationship exists among the a parameters of the hexagonal phases having the space group P6(3)/mmc, where tau = (1 + root5)/2: a(tau(mu)) congruent to taua(mu) congruent to tau(2)a(mu) congruent to tau(3)a(beta). The crystal structures of beta and mu are known to consist periodically of 2 and 4 + 2 (or 3 + 3) interpenetrated icosahedra, respectively, along the (1 0 0) directions. From this and the tau-inflation relationship of a parameters, the icosahedral chain in H and T(R) possibly consists, respectively, of 4 and 4 + 4 + 2 icosahedra. In addition, these hexagonal phases are layer compounds and their c parameters correspond to 4, 6/12, 12, and 6 layers, respectively, for P, H, L, and T( L). Based on these relationships, structural models for the H and T(L) phases are constructed. Such interpenetrated icosahedral chains also exist in another family of hexagonal approximants, such as kappa-(AlCrNi), lambda-Al4Mn, and nu-(AlCrFe) having the space group P6(3)/m, but these chains are deviated from the (1 0 0) directions and non-periodic.
