IMF By-controlled field-aligned currents in the magnetotail during northward interplanetary magnetic field

中文摘要The influence oftheinterplanetarymagnetic field (IMF) By component onthe field-aligned currents (FACs)intheplasmasheetboundarylayer(PSBL)inthemagnetotailduringthenorthwardIMFwere investigatedusingthedatafromCluster.Thereare748FACscasesselectedtodoanalysis.Wepresent that theIMF By component playsaveryimportantroleincontrollingthe flowdirectionoftheFACsinthe PSBL inthemagnetotail.Inthenorthernhemisphere,theinfluence ofthepositive(negative)IMF By is an earthward(tailward)FACs.Tothecontrary,inthesouthernhemisphere,theeffectofthepositive (negative)IMF By is atailward(earthward)FACs.Thereisaclearnorth–south asymmetryofthepolarity of theFACsinthePSBLwhenIMF By is positiveornegative,andthisasymmetryofthepolarityismore distinct whenIMF By is positive.TheFACdensityiscontrolledbyIMF By only when |IMF By| is large.When |IMF By| is morethan10nTtheabsoluteFACdensityinthePSBLhasanobviouspositivecorrelationwith the |IMF By|. When |IMF By| is lessthan10nT,thereisnocorrelationbetweentheabsoluteFACdensityand |IMF By|. Thereisacleardusk–dawnasymmetryinthecurrentdensitiesfortheFACsinthePSBL,withthe dawncurrentsappearinglargerthantheduskcurrents.TheFACwiththelargest(smallest)densityis located intherangeof0100rMLTo0200(2100rMLTo2200).
