Urban geomorphology is a new developing branch of of sciences, which rose in the 1960s in the world, and at the middle of 1980s in China. It is obvious that the urban geomorphology is rapidly developing with the rapid development of urban construction. Through the studing during recent decade, the deeper knowledge is taken to the study contents  and methods of urban landform, which includes that the urban geomorphology should take the city with the dense population as an object, and should study the structure, functions and evolution of urban landform systems as well as the relationships between the urban landform system and the large system of whole city ect as an emphliasis. At the sametime, this paper summarzes systematically the study aspects of urban landform, and finally introduces the primary contents in the special issue.
