An ionospheric model in the South China Sea region made by artificial neural network

英文摘要In this paper, a regional ionosphere model in the South China Sea region is built on the basis of artificial neural network. In this model, five variables which stand for the yearly and monthly mean value of F10.7, longitude, latitude and month are selected. Monthly median of ionosphere critical frequency with the length of about 100 years observed at six ionospheric observatories around the region are used to train the network. Comparison of predictions with observations shows that the model can characterize the variation of the critical frequency in this regional ionosphere with time, location and the solar activity level. It is suitable for the prediction of HF communication channels in the South China Sea.
