In this paper  we develop a lucky imaging system to restore astronomical images through atmosphere turbulence. Our system takes very short exposures  on the order of the atmospheric coherence time. The rapidly changing turbulence leads to a very variable point spread function (PSF)  and the variability of the PSF leads to some frames having better quality than the rest. Only the best frames are selected  aligned and co-added to give a final image with much improved angular resolution. Our system mainly consists of five parts: preprocessing  frame selection  image registration  image reconstruction  and image enhancement. Our lucky imaging system has been successfully applied to restore the astronomical images taken by a 1.23m telescope. We have got clear images of moon surface and Jupiter  and our system can be demonstrated to greatly improve the imaging resolution through atmospheric turbulence. 2011 Copyright Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).

To achieve a correct image receiving for Roll-Swing imaging seeker  the mechanism and imaging process is analyzed. The causes of image rotation are discussed. The influence of the frame encoders' precision on imaging de-rotation quality is analyzed. The Roll-Swing imaging seeker is designed for high-speed aerocraft  thus the received images are greatly degraded due to atmospheric turbulence. A new method of image restoration is proposed for turbulence-degraded images in this paper. The method is to get point spread function (PSF) based on the estimation of optical transfer function (OTF) according to the optical system design simulation. Finally  to obtain the restored image  constrained least squares filtering is used with the known PSF. The experiment results indicate that the new restoration method has a favorable effect to satisfy requirement of the automatic target recognition. 2011 IEEE.

Stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscopy exploits nonlinear saturable optical transition of fluorescent molecules  allowed to overcome Abbe's diffraction-limit and provides diffraction-unlimited resolution in far-field optical microscopy. We elaborate the mechanism of STED and the conditions of depletion. The formula of STED microcopy resolution is deduced through effective point spread function (E-PSF). The STED system resolution is mainly dominated by the quality of the fluorescence depletion patterns in the focal plane. The depletion pattern is mainly affected by STED beam intensity  polarization  phase plate  primary aberrations  STED pulse shape  pulse duration and delay time. In this paper  we found related models and simulate the relationship between the depletion patterns and the parameters  and put forward effective approach to enhance the system resolution. 2010 SPIE.

In order to reduce image blur caused by the degradation phenomenon in the imaging process  the acquired images of the space remote sensing camera are restored. First  the frequency-domain notch filter is adopted to remove strip noises in the images. Then degradation function  which is referred to as the point spread function (PSF) of the imaging system is estimated using the knife-edge method. To improve the accuracy of the estimation  the estimated PSF is adjusted with Gaussian fitting. Finally  the images are restored by Wiener filtering with the fitted PSF. The restoration results of the remote sensing images show that almost all strip noises are eliminated by the notch filter. After denoising and restoration  the variance of the remote sensing image worked with in this paper increases 30.979 and the gray mean gradient increases 3.312. Due to Gaussian fitting  the accuracy of the PSF estimation is heightened. Image restoration with the final PSF is benefit to interpreting and analyzing the remote sensing images. After restoration  the contrasts of the restored images are increased and the visual effects become clearer. 2010 IEEE.

In the processing diagnosis of the inertia confinement fusion (ICF)  the ring coded aperture imaging technique is applied in order to gain high space and time resolutions simultaneously. The key of acquiring high spatial resolution is how to obtain a point spread function of an imaging system. The common method is the firsthand projection method which is an approximate one. The x-ray diffraction effect is neglected in the method  so the resolution of reconstructed image is decreased. We have derived the point spread function (PSF) of the ring coded aperture from scalar diffraction theory. And the Wiener filter is fabricated on the basis of the PSF. In National Key Laboratory of Laser Fusion  at China Academy of Engineering Physics  the imaging experiment on the diagnosis of ICF is completed using the ring coded aperture plate with inner diameter d1 = 250m and outer diameter d2 = 260m . The obtained coded image is processed by the Wiener filter which diffractive effect is considered. The processed results have shown that resolution and modulation contrast of acquired image are evidently better than the results obtained by the firsthand projection method.
