An artificial pancreas system (APS) mimics the function of a real pancreas through monitoring a diabetic's blood glucose and administering the right dose of insulin via an automatic control loop. It is hailed as a promising cure of diabetes  though this technology is still years away from commercial use due to a few technological bottlenecks. The simulation model of insulin-glucose metabolism of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is an essential part of APS. In order to simplify the parameter identification task so that the model can be implemented electronically with ease  this paper presents a simplified model based on Routh approximation model reduction method. The results show that the approximation error between the simplified model and the original model is so small that can be neglected. Based on the simplified model  a PID controller is designed to maintain normoglycemia (90mg/dl) in subjects with T1DM. The in silico simulation results show that the glucose concentration is controlled well  the risk of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia is reduced a lot. This suggests that the simplified model describes the insulin-glucose metabolism process accurately  and the PID control algorithm is well-suitable to guide the further development of an APS. 2012 IEEE.

With the increasing demands for the agility of the next earth imaging satellite  control moment gyro (CMG) is considered to be the most suitable actuator because of its torque amplification capability. However  a CMG system may introduce uncertainty of inertia dyadic to a satellite's attitude control system. The uncertainty is negligible for large space vehicles  but it has not been tested whether it can be ignored for small agile satellites. How to model the CMG system inertia dyadic varying with gimbal angles  and what influence it will put on the performance of attitude control system haven't been test accurately as well. All of them are dealt with mathematically and accurately in this paper. This paper firstly gives mathematic descriptions of the inertia dyadic of the 4-CMG pyramid configuration system  varying with gimbal angles  and then designs a variable structure control law for small agile satellite using CMGs. Finally  numerical simulation suggests that the inertia dyadic variation of a 4-CMG pyramid configuration system is approximately centesimal of the total inertia dyadic of the satellite  and that the designed variable structure control law is of good robust performance for an example of large-angle attitude maneuver  despite of the variation of the inertia dyadic. 2010 IEEE.

Many of the video image trackers today use the centroid as the tracking point. In engineering  we can get several key pairs of peaks which can include the target and the background around it and use the method of Otsu to get intensity thresholds from them. According to the thresholds  it give a great help for us to get a glancing size  a target's centroid is computed from a binary image to reduce the processing time. Hence thresholding of gray level image to binary image is a decisive step in centroid tracking. How to choose the feat thresholds in clutter is still an intractability problem unsolved today. This paper introduces a high-accuracy real-time automatic thresholding method for centroid tracker. It works well for variety types of target tracking in clutter. The core of this method is to get the entire information contained in the histogram  we can gain the binary image and get the centroid from it. To track the target  so that we can compare the size of the object in the current frame with the former. If the change is little  such as the number of the peaks  the paper also suggests subjoining an eyeshot-window  we consider the object has been tracked well. Otherwise  their height  just like our eyes focus on a target  if the change is bigger than usual  position and other properties in the histogram. Combine with this histogram analysis  we will not miss it unless it is out of our eyeshot  we should analyze the inflection in the histogram to find out what happened to the object. In general  the impression will help us to extract the target in clutter and track it and we will wait its emergence since it has been covered. To obtain the impression  what we have to do is turning the analysis into codes for the tracker to determine a feat threshold. The paper will show the steps in detail. The paper also discusses the hardware architecture which can meet the speed requirement.  the paper offers a idea comes from the method of Snakes

Image segmentation is the first essential and important step of low level vision. This paper proposes a novel algorithm for adaptive image segmentation  it can be applied in many conditions  based on thresholding technique and segments merging according to their characteristics combine with spatial position. Our earlier work of getting the entire information of the histogram could help choose the multiple thresholds. However  including complex target segmented. We describe the algorithm in detail and perform simulation experiments. The computation based on pixels can fully parallel processing to save time. 2006 IEEE.  not all the peaks of the histogram correspond to obvious structural unit in the image. Spatial information must be involved. This paper also suggests subjoining segments matching for video image tracking. They will give great help to image segmentation. The proposed algorithm can meet the real-time requirement and lead to higher segmentation accuracy  some types of texture can also be segmented well

The gain of a TDI CCD camera is the conversion between the number of electrons recorded by the TDI CCD and the number of digital units (counts) contained in the CCD image"[1]. TDI CCD camera has been a main technical approach for meeting the requirements of high-resolution and lightweight of remote sensing equipment. It is useful to know this conversion for evaluating the performance of the TDI CCD camera. In general  a lower gain is better. However  the resulting slope is the gain of the TDI CCD. We did the experiments using the Integration Sphere in order to get a flat field effects. We calculated the gain of the four IT-EI-2048 TDI CCD. The results and figures of the four TDI CCD are given.  this is only true as long as the total well depth (number of electrons that a pixel can hold) of the pixels can be represented. High gains result in higher digitization noise. System gains are designed to be a compromise between the extremes of high digitization noise and loss of well depth. In this paper  the mathematical theory is given behind the gain calculation on a TDI CCD camera and shows how the mathematics suggests ways to measure the gain accurately according to the Axiom Tech. The gains were computed using the mean-variance method  also known as the method of photon transfer curves. This method uses the effect of quantization on the variance in the measured counts over a uniformly illuminated patch of the detector. This derivation uses the concepts of signal and noise. A linear fit is done of variance vs. mean
