The radiometric calibration of the thermal imager was investigated to build the relationship between the input radiance and the digital output to realize the temperature measurement. The radiometric calibration was implemented in the State Key Laboratory of Applied Optics. A standard black body source was served as radiation source. The response of the thermal imager to the input radiance was tested for different gains. The experimental results show that the average grey level of the output imaging is linear dependence of the input radiance. Because the radiance in the receiving wave range of the thermal imager is linear with the black body's temperature based on Planck's law of radiation  the average grey level of the output image is also linear with the black body's temperature after fitting a curve to the experiment data points. Then the relationship of the response and the gain was studied when the black body's temperature kept constant. The preliminary analysis of calibration data shows that the response of the thermal imager is linear and the average grey value of the image is directly proportion to the gain. According to the experimental results  the reference gains and the dynamic range of temperature measurement were obtained. Finally  the uncertainty influencing the calibration results was analyzed  the analysis shows the maximal uncertainty is 5.2%  which can meet the calibration requirement less than 10%. 2010 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

The non-uniformity phenomenon exists in each channel of multi-CCD imaging systems. The factors which lead to the problem are complex. The conventional calibrating algorithms can not consider all of these factors and have poor effects. According to the characters of multi-CCD imaging systems  a non-uniformity correction method based on the scene was proposed by adopting the traditional two-point correction theories. The correction coefficient of each channel image can be calculated via the linear relation between the two neighboring pixel lines in the two-channel images. Compared with the conventional two-point calibration and multi-point calibration methods  contrastive calibrating results were obtained. This method does not need any standard lighted image as reference source  which provides a real time way for calibrating the multi-CCD imaging systems in practical applications. 2010 IEEE.

In order to overcome the irradiance responsivity calibration troubles caused by the weak response of most spectral radiometers in ultraviolet band and poor ratio of signal to noise  and to meet special calibration condition for some remote sensing spectroradiometers in space  a spectral irradiance responsivity calibration unit based on parallel light illumination mode is established  it is composed of a 150W deuterium lamp and a spherical mirror. The calibration unit gets the output standard value of spectral irradiance by irradiance transfer  this way avoids the spectral reflectance measurement difficulty of the spherical mirror. A flight spectral radiometer model used for space remote sense was calibrated in range from 160nm to 300nm  the calibration error of spectral irradiance responsivity is 4.7%. Some factors which contribute to calibration uncertainties are discussed.

Industries from agriculture to petrochemistry have found near infrared (NIR) spectroscopic analysis useful for quality control and quantitative analysis of materials and products. The general chemical  polymer chemistry  petrochemistry  agriculture  food and textile industries are currently using NIR spectroscopic methods for analysis. In this study  we developed a new sort NIR instrument for food measuring. The instrument consists of a light source  12 filters to the prismatic part. The special part is that we use a mirror to get two beams of light. And two PbS detectors were used. One detector collected the radiation of one light beam directly and the value was set as the standard instead the standard white surface. Another light beam irradiate the sample surface  and the diffuse light was collected by another detector. The value of the two detectors was compared and the absorbency was computed. We tested the performance of the NIR instrument in determining the protein and fat content of milk powder. The calibration showed the accuracy of the instrument in practice.

STIM (Solar Total Irradiance Monitor) can be used on sun-synchronous polar orbit weather satellites to measure the total solar irradiance. It contains three independent and identical wide view absolute radiometers. They are mounted on the satellite in an angle which ensure the sun scan over the field of view of the absolute radiometers. This measurement method doesn't need the instrument tracking the sun but the sun scan over the field of view of the absolute radiometers in each orbit cycle. The paper presents the measurement method of simulation for solar irradiance measurement and calibration by mounting the instrument on a two-axis rotation table. By controlling the rotation angle velocity of the instrument in the meridian direction being the same as that of the weather satellite's on orbit  we can measure the solar irradiance when the sun scan over the field of view of the absolute radiometers to simulate the onboard state. And we have operated the measurement with the prototype of STIM. The SIAR-1 is traceable to WRR and serves as a transfer standard. So simultaneous comparison measurements between SIAR-1 and each of the three wide view absolute radiometers are measured to provide calibration corrections to the instrument. And we have a further study at the influence of stray light to the measurement results. This paper presents the method of simulation experiment and calibration for solar irradiance measurement with Solar Total Irradiance Monitor on board.
