Being an efficient method of information fusion
image fusion has been used in many fields such as machine vision
medical diagnosis
military applications and remote sensing.In this paper
Pulse Coupled Neural Network (PCNN) is introduced in this research field for its interesting properties in image processing
including segmentation
target recognition et al.
and a novel algorithm based on PCNN and Wavelet Transform for Multi-focus image fusion is proposed. First
the two original images are decomposed by wavelet transform. Then
based on the PCNN
a fusion rule in the Wavelet domain is given. This algorithm uses the wavelet coefficient in each frequency domain as the linking strength
so that its value can be chosen adaptively. Wavelet coefficients map to the range of image gray-scale. The output threshold function attenuates to minimum gray over time. Then all pixels of image get the ignition. So
the output of PCNN in each iteration time is ignition wavelet coefficients of threshold strength in different time. At this moment
the sequences of ignition of wavelet coefficients represent ignition timing of each neuron. The ignition timing of PCNN in each neuron is mapped to corresponding image gray-scale range
which is a picture of ignition timing mapping. Then it can judge the targets in the neuron are obvious features or not obvious. The fusion coefficients are decided by the compare-selection operator with the firing time gradient maps and the fusion image is reconstructed by wavelet inverse transform. Furthermore
by this algorithm
the threshold adjusting constant is estimated by appointed iteration number. Furthermore
In order to sufficient reflect order of the firing time

each of the wavelet coefficient is activated. In order to verify the effectiveness of proposed rules
the experiments upon Multi-focus image are done. Moreover
comparative results of evaluating fusion quality are listed. The experimental results show that the method can effectively enhance the edge details and improve the spatial resolution of the image. 2011 SPIE.

We focused our attention on model reduction for linear time invariant (LTI) continuous time systems with single input and single output (SISO). We analyzed the strongpoint and shortcoming of an information theoretic approach called minimum information loss method for model reduction. We explained relationships between the steady-state information entropy and controllability information for the Gaussian systems. The controllability
observability and Cross-Gramian information were analyzed in the time-domain. The frequency-domain Cross-Gramian information (FCGI) was defined based on Cross-Gramian matrix containing information associated with both controllability and observability. Furthermore
a valuable application of the frequency-domain Cross-Gramian information to model reduction (FCGMIL) was developed by using the concept and properties of frequency-domain Cross-Gramian information. The performance index of FCGMIL is to minimize the frequency-domain Cross-Gramian information loss caused by eliminating the state variables with weak contributions to Cross-Gramian information over some frequency band. Two numerical examples are illustrated to verify the efficiency of FCGMIL. 2010 IEEE.

This paper presents theoretical analysis and experiment results of four different fibers transmitting 10MW peak power Nd: YAG laser pulse. The main factors limiting to optical fiber transmission of high power laser pulse is pointed
including air breakdown at focus area and surface damage of optical fiber. The theory of air breakdown and the fiber coupling conditions is described briefly. The results of study to the transmission properties and damage conditions are presented on the basis of four different types of optical fibers. The results of the experiments are further analyzed in the aspects of transmitting efficiency
air breakdown and surface damage. The local and foreign optical fibers
with plastic-cladding and silica-cladding
and step- index and graded- index fibers are tested separately in the experiments. The experiments showed that the imported fibers are able to transmit up to 10MW peak power laser pulse with no any visible damage
while energy density at the fiber output end surface is 3.54GW/cm2. For local fibers
damage on the input surface of both plastic-cladding and silica-cladding
step-index fibers was found obviously. The column damage to the graded index fiber was also found and investigated in the research. Damage mechanisms of fiber at high peak power laser pulses are summarized. High quality finishing of fiber end surface will improve damage threshold tremendously. The conclusion of the study is that transmitting Q-switched Nd:YAG pulses of 10MW peak power is feasible for the domestically made fibers if their end surfaces are properly processed.

The high power bottom-emitting vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) and laser arrays emitting at 980 nm are reported. Extensive investigations on size scaling behavior of thermal properties of single devices show limits of attainable output characteristics. The maximum continuous wave (CW) output power at room temperature of single devices with aperture size up to 500 m is as high as 1.95 W. The key characteristics such as maximum output power
wavelength and thermal resistance are discussed. The bottom-emitting arrays of 16 elements and 200 m aperture size of individual elements show output power of CW 1.35 W at room temperature. The far-field angle is below 17 for all driving current
which is very favorable for focusing or collmating optics.
