There are three main nonlinear elements in the large mirror assemblies
which are screw pretension
adhesive stress and state changes in the assembly process. The optical shape will be influenced seriously by these factors. But the impacts will not be shown in linear analysis results
because as the simplification
these factors have been ignored. The nonlinear analysis method for predicting optical surface deformations resulted from assembly process is discussed in detail. Take a typical mirror support structure for example
the nonlinear analysis model was established. Comparing the calculation results with the optical shape test
it is illustrated that nonlinear analysis is more accurate and closer to the test result. And according to the simulation result
the bowl-shaped depression which was discovered in the test can also be explained reasonably. 2010 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

Electrostatic membrane reflector (EMR) is very promised for optical quality application with the merits of utra-lightweight and flexible. Configuring a circular membrane reflector with electrostatic potentials exerted on distributed electrodes can approximatively produce a parabolic shape. A 300mm EMR (made from polyimide) stretched by distributed electrodes below is designed
and the number of concentric electrodes needed for membrane shape forming is analysed. First
based on an analytical solution of Poisson's equation
determine the membrane control matrix by finding influence functions of 3 concentric electrodes and 6 control points on membrane surface in order to compute the needed voltages exerted on the distributed electrodes by the method of least-squares fitting. Then the final shape solved by finite element analysis with ANSYS is contrasted with the paraboloid and deviates greatly when the central displacement of membrane is beyond 2.5mm
but in this range increasing the number of electrodes and control points will get a better shape. The corresponding errors are analyzed
and the control method is concluded. Only using the integrated method of analytical computation
numerical analysis and experiment
the membrane shape of certain central displacement can be exactly predicted and controlled. 2009 IEEE.

With the development of optical information processing
high-resolution Fourier transform lens has often been used in holographic data storage system
spatial filtering and observation of particles. This paper studies the optical design method of high-resolution Fourier transform optical lenses system
which could be used in particles observation and holographic data storage system. According to Fourier transform relation between object and its frequency plane and the theory of geometrical optics
the system with working wavelength 532nm and resolution 3 m was designed based on ZEMAX. A multi-configuration method was adopted to optimize the system's lenses. In the optical system
a diaphragm was placed at the system's spectrum plane and the system demanded a low vacuum to cut down the influences of atmosphere and other particles. The result of finite element analysis indicated that the influences of vacuum pumping to optics spacing and mirror surface shape very minor
and the imaging quality not being affected. This system has many advantages
such as simple structure
good image quality and a high resolution of 3 m. So it has a wide application prospect and can be used both in holographic data storage system and particles observation.

The main principles of laser direct writing (LDW) system for lines on the spherical surface (SS) are discussed. It is pointed out that line profile is determined by the exposure dose distribution
which lies on the light intensity distribution of focus plane and the scanning speed. To improve the quality of line profile on the SS
several key techniques as follows are introduced. Firstly
the unique system configuration
four axes mutually intersecting at the center of the SS
is adopted
which ensures the shape of the focus be maintained circular during the writing period. Secondly
an automatic focus system (AFS) with the function of automatic focus in a certain range is introduced. Thirdly
to guarantee the linear velocity to accord with the exposure character of the photoresist all the time
an efficient arithmetic that controls motors run at appropriate angular velocity in different latitude is developed. Finally
to achieve a stable and well-behaved system so as to compensate the velocity instability resulting from unavoidable errors of mechanical and electronics factor
a powerful programmable multi-axis controller (PMAC) is utilized as the kernel element of the servocontrol system
and the curves of step response and parabolic response achieved by feedforward and PID loop tuning indicate that the location precision and velocity stability have reached a high level. The experimental results of LDW of lines on the SS work piece with a diameter 30 mm and a radius equal to 100 mm are given. The section analysis of the lines on the photoresist by the atomic force microscope (AFM) after exposure and development is performed. The results show that line width is about 3.0 m
and the steep sides of the lines are parallel to each other.

We have investigated the effect of transparent thin film while mapping its surface profile by using vertical scanning white light interferometer. Our theory analysis showed that multiple reflections taking place within the transparent thin film result in an extra phase change. The simulation and experiment results revealed that this extra phase change is also related to the thickness of thin film
the numerical number of microscope interferometer objective and the spectral distribution of light source. As a result of extra phase change
the interferogram has some deviation in its shape or two interference fringes may appears while the thickness of thin film is large.

The manufacturing procedure of a 500 mm in diameter
f/2 hyperbolic primary mirror based on Computer-Controlled Polishing is introduced in detail. The mirror was finally polished to the shape accuracy of 13 nm rms and the surface roughness of 2 nm Ra. Testing methods and data analysis for different stages ranging from grinding to polishing are discussed. Some critical factors affecting the efficiency and accuracy of the grinding/polishing procedure are summarized. In addition
the preliminary work to make large off-axis asphere mirrors is presented. The difficulties in polishing and testing for both circular aperture and rectangular aperture mirrors are previewed
and a possible solution is given. To control the geometrical parameters such as radius of curvature and conic constant
a new profiler has been built
and it has proven very useful to improve the grinding efficiency. Finally
the manufacturing of small aspheres using deterministic grinding tool is also introduced. The fine grinding procedure of LOH's asphere grinding machine is presented.
