The azimuth bearing schemes in typical large Alt-azimuth telescopes  especially the 3.5-m APO telescope and the 4.1-m SOAR telescope were analyzed. A scheme of high-angular contacted thrust ball bearing integrated with a radial ball bearing was put forward. According to the Hertz contact theory  the corresponding parameters were designed for engineering application. The static performance parameters  within the range of 60 85 original contact angle were calculated. Compared with the traditional plane thrust ball bearing  the results shows that the high-angular (80) contact thrust ball bearing has more benefits at bearing strength and rigidity for large telescope. The 1500mm diameter prototyping bearing shows good performance  including the axial jitter is 0.009mm  the radial jitter is 0.006mm  the maximum starting torque without load is 30N·m  and the load capacity is more than 30t  which offers advanced technique path for the buildup of the high precision azimuth shafting and the whole telescope system. 2010 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

The sensing properties with strain and temperature of tapered FBG had been researched both theoretically and experimentally. Based on tapered FBG and thin-wall strain cylinder structure  a novel temperature-independent high pressure sensor was fabricated and investigated. The tapered FBG performed as a chirped grating  whose bandwidth and reflection power broadened and increased when the pressure applied on it. Moreover  the bandwidth and the reflection power were temperature-independent. So the value of the strain can be obtained by detecting the reflection power. This method effectively solved the cross-sensitivity problem. The experiment results indicated that this sensor provided a measurement range of 040MPa with a sensitivity of 0.04w/MPa  low cost and good application prospect. 2010 IEEE.

Electrostatic membrane reflector (EMR) is very promised for optical quality application with the merits of utra-lightweight and flexible. Configuring a circular membrane reflector with electrostatic potentials exerted on distributed electrodes can approximatively produce a parabolic shape. A 300mm EMR (made from polyimide) stretched by distributed electrodes below is designed  and the number of concentric electrodes needed for membrane shape forming is analysed. First  based on an analytical solution of Poisson's equation  determine the membrane control matrix by finding influence functions of 3 concentric electrodes and 6 control points on membrane surface in order to compute the needed voltages exerted on the distributed electrodes by the method of least-squares fitting. Then the final shape solved by finite element analysis with ANSYS is contrasted with the paraboloid and deviates greatly when the central displacement of membrane is beyond 2.5mm  but in this range increasing the number of electrodes and control points will get a better shape. The corresponding errors are analyzed  and the control method is concluded. Only using the integrated method of analytical computation  numerical analysis and experiment  the membrane shape of certain central displacement can be exactly predicted and controlled. 2009 IEEE.

It is a key point of CO2 laser beam monitoring in the CO 2 laser processing system to achieve alignment between CO2 laser and PL (pointing and launching) system. By monitoring the angle offset of CO2 laser beam  the compensation can be gotten witch is given to fast-steering mirror to rectify the direction of laser beam. But the normal photoelectric detector can not get the laser signal because of CO2 laser's high energy and long wavelength. Its wavelength is 10.6m and its power can reach kW level. Consequently  it is difficult to detect the high-energy 10.6m laser beam directly. So  we monitored the output mirror of laser resonator superseded the laser beam  indirectly. The laser beam monitoring system could be designed based on CCD laser auto-collimation angular measurement principle and image processing method. In this paper  application of CCD laser auto-collimation angular measurement principle and image processing method for CO2 laser beam monitoring system is introduced particularly  After design  fabrication and alignment  the monitoring system can be used for experimental study that including angular measurement accuracy and angle offset measurement of CO2 laser beam. Angle offset range and angle variation rule of CO2 laser beam is also can be acquired for further research.
