In this paper
we demonstrated the encapsulation of ZnS: Mn2+ nanowires (NWs) and ZnO quantum dots (QDs) with a layer of mesoporous SiO 2 shell for the purpose of integrating dual emission property into one common nanostructure. The average diameter of ZnS: Mn2+ NWs
ZnO QDs
and ZnS: Mn2+ / ZnO@SiO2 heterostructure was about 10 nm
6 nm
and 22 nm
respectively. Within ZnS: Mn2+ / ZnO@SiO 2 nanocomposites
the intensity of the yellow-orange emission contributed by ZnS: Mn2+ NWs and the UV emission contributed by ZnO QDs was three and ten times higher than their individual components
respectively. The fluorescence intensity ratio of the dual emission can be tuned by adjusting the hydrolysis time of tetraethyl orthosilicate. The peak energy of the yellow-orange and UV emission showed blueshift and redshift as increasing the temperature
respectively. The anomalous enhancement of the integrated intensity for the UV emission with the temperature indicated that the high surface state density existing in ZnO QDs can overrun the influence of temperature quenching and even alter the photoluminescent properties. 2010 American Institute of Physics.

Thiol-capped CdSe/CdS core/shell nanocrystals (NCs) which show high luminescence quantum yield are synthesized in an aqueous solution. UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy are employed to analyze optical characters and stabilities of NCs. Furthermore
PL properties are studied in a temperature range between 77K and 300K. The PL peak position of bare CdSe NCs shifts toward shorter wavelengths and the band becomes sharper with decreasing temperature. On the same condition
the PL peak position of CdSe/CdS core/shell NCs keeps unconverted nearly with the variation of temperature. Photostability of bare CdSe NCs and CdSe/CdS core/shell NCs are compared under the 325nm laser irradiation. It takes 78 seconds that the PL intensity declines to the half for CdSe NCs
but 442 seconds for CdSe/CdS core/shell NCs. The fluorescence decay lifetime increases about six times after overcoating. The results indicate that the CdS shell can improve the low temperature PL stability and photostability of CdSe NCs effectively.

The immobilization of antibodies on solid surface has been widely studied in elucidating immunoassay and in developing immunosensor. In this paper
FITC-labeled goat anti-human IgG were covalently immobilized on 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) and glutaraldehyde (Glu) to modify the distal end of a fiber-optic probe. The higher density and stability of FITC-labeled goat anti-human IgG could be obtained on the fiber surface modified with APTES-Glu than that on the non-modified fiber surface by evanescent excited fluorescence spectroscopy. Furthermore
red shift of the FITC fluorescence dye emission peak was observed on different fiber surface
exhibiting different interaction between FITC- labeled antibody and surface. Finally
under these conditions antigen-antibody reaction was investigated as an immunosensor. Detection limit of the evanescent wave optic-fiber biosensor is 10ng/ml.
