In order to realize real-time auto-focusing for theodolite  lens-apart method was designed with the corresponding math model built and analyzed. An Object beam splitted after the first image surface of the theodolite traveled through two dialyte lens and then was imaged on CCD. The distance between two spots when exactly focused was set as the calibration value  and the relationship between defocus distance and spot offset was given. The influence of tracking center shift and divergence angle etc. on focusing accuracy was analyzed. Compared with the traditional focusing method  this scheme has a higher accuracy  faster calculation  higher tolerance for environment temperature and a simpler construction. The experiment result exhibited a resolution higher than 0.056mm  which shows a bright engineering application prospect for this method. 2009 SPIE.

CCD noises and their causes are analyzed. Methods to control these noises  such as Correlated Double Sampling (CDS)  filtering  cooling  clamping  and calibration are proposed. To improve CCD sensor's performances  the IC  called Analog Front End (AFE)  integration of CDS  clamping  Programmable Gain Amplifier (PGA)  offset  and ADC  which can fulfill the CDS and analog-to-digital conversion  is employed to process the output signal of CCD. Based on the noise control approaches  the idea of chip design of linear CCD drive pulse generator and control interface is introduced. The chip designed is playing the role of (1) drive pulse generator  for both CCD and AFE  and (2) interface  helping to analysis and transfer control command and status information between MCU controller and drive pulse generator  or between global control unit in the chip and CCD/AFE. There are 6 function blocks in the chip designed  such as clock generator for CCD and AFE  MCU interface  AFE serial interface  output interface  CCD antiblooming parameter register and global control logic unit. These functions are implemented in a CPLD chip  Xilinx XC2C256-6-VQ100  with 20MHz pixel frequency  and 16-bit high resolution. This chip with the AFE can eliminate CCD noise largely and improve the SNR of CCD camera. At last  the design result is presented.

Striping noise is the common system noise during formation of image using linear array CCD and has the character of periodicity  directivity and banding distributing. It can be caused by errors in internal calibration devices  or by slight gain/offset differences among the elements that conform the array of detectors. Striping noise covers up useful information in CCD image and brings adverse effect to image interpretation. On the basis of analyzing wavelet decomposed coefficient  the regularities of distribution about striping noise in wavelet coefficient is found  thereby the method of wavelet threshold selection which is suitable to striping noise distribution is put forward. According to Donoho's method about denoising using wavelet  the image including striping noise is processed. Comparing the power spectrum of processed image with the one of original image polluted by striping noise in frequency field  we find pulse brought by striping noise is removed and the goal which reserves image details and reduces stripes is achieved.

Many applications  such as industrial inspection and overhead reconnaissance benefit from line scanning architectures where time delay integration (TDI) significantly improves sensitivity[5]. Images with linear response have become the backbone of the imaging industry. But each pixel of the TDI CCD has unique light sensitivity characteristics. Because these characteristics and the lens of the optical system affect camera's linearization and its performance  they must be removed through calibration. The process by which a CCD image is calibrated is known as nonuniformity correction. This paper discusses several methods of nonuniformity correction[2]. The first is one-point correction technique  which requires only one calibration point. This approach is to shift each curve toward the nominal curve by subtracting the offset from or adding the offset to the average. The second is two-point correction technique  which requires two calibration points. Each point is rotated and aligned so that all the detectors have the same response under the same radiance. The third is multipoint correction. It is recommended that more calibration points be implemented at appropriate regions of the response curve. Depend on the linear photoelectric response of the TDI CCD  we use two-point calibration and the standard deviations for the images are given before and after the correction.
