An FPGA based transceiving synchronization method is demonstrated for Free Space Optical (FSO) communication system  which is discussed separately as the transmitting protocol and the receiving protocol. During the discussion of these two parts  the co-operation of them is also discussed. The transmitting protocol interfaces the outer input data with a parallel port  buffers the input data  encodes the input data stream  serializes the parallel data and outputs the serialized data. It also has an output management unit to manage the activity of each part of the transmitting protocol. The receiving protocol filters and synchronizes the input serial data stream  parallels the serial data stream  decodes the input data  checks received error  handles transmission exception and interfaces the outer receiver with a parallel port. The entire transceiving protocol could be programmed into a single FPGA chip to improve system integrity and reduce the system cost. The presented protocol could be taken as "protocol transparent" for outer interfaces  meaning that when interfacing the presented system to an outer system  users don't have to consider what protocol the outer system transceiving data stream is under  for example  the TCP/IP protocol or anything else  in the case that its I/O interface is a parallel port. Simulation and final experiment prove that the protocol presented is a working solution at a certain bit rate scale. 2012 IEEE.

The applications based on traditional digital cameras have been limited by distance  cost and networking. Gigabit Ethernet is a data transmission standard based on the IEEE 802.3 protocol  brings several benefits to image transmission. In this paper  we compare the main features of Gigabit Ethernet and traditional digital camera interfaces. And  we design a high speed image acquisition system which overcomes these application limitations by allowing cameras to send imaging data over Gigabit Ethernet. In this system  we design a highly efficient  bidirectional conversion device based on FPGA  converts imaging data from a camera to IP packets based on UDP protocol  and sends it to PCs over inexpensive Cat-5 copper LAN cable. At the PC  the Cat-5 cable plugs into a standard Gigabit Ethernet NIC(network interface card)  eliminating the need for a frame grabber. An communications application software is used to acquire the network data  construct and display the image. A simple and efficient acknowledge and resend mechanism was used to guarantee packet delivery. The system architecture and the communication protocol are discussed in details  the experiment and results are presented in this paper. 2010 IEEE.

A new transceiving protocol is demonstrated for a Free Space Optical (FSO) communication system  and it's discussed in two parts: the transmitting protocol and the receiving protocol. During the discussion of these two parts  the cooperation of them is also discussed. Different from wired communication  an FSO system modulates the data on a narrow beam of laser transmitting through the free space or the atmosphere  and the protocol presented in this paper is mainly optimized for terrestrial Free Space Optical links  in which the signal channel of the system is mainly the atmosphere. Due to the complex composition and activity of the atmosphere  this signal channel brings in great influence on the transmitting laser in it  for example  the absorption and scattering of the atmosphere molecules and aerosols  the scintillation of received laser power caused by the turbulence of the atmosphere  all of which results in a much higher Bit Error Rate (BER) of the communication system. Thus in designing a protocol for an FSO system  more effort should be taken in the encoding of the data stream  the synchronization of the data stream  error checking and exception handling. The main function of the transmitting protocol includes interfacing the outer input data with a parallel port  buffering the input data  encoding the input data stream  serializing the parallel data and output the serialized data. It also has an output management unit to manage the activity of each part of the transmitting protocol. The main function of the receiving protocol includes filtering and synchronizing the input serial data stream  paralleling the serial data stream  decoding the input data  error checking  exception handling and interfacing the outer receiver with a parallel port. Future optical communication systems will use more of the exceptional high bandwidth of optical fiber. Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems are well suited to transport terabits of information via the fiber[1]. Multiplexers/ demultiplexers (MUX/DEMUX) are essential components for dense WDM systems. Several different kinds of multiplexer types have been developed in the past: (a) interference filters  (b) fiber gratings  and (c) planar lightwave circuit (PLC) MUX/DEMUXers[2  3]. The planar fabrication process of the last mentioned PLCs allows the realization of high performance filters with a large number of wavelength channels. Further  an integration with other optical elements seems to be possible. Arrayed waveguide gratings (AWG) are a special kind of PLC-MUX/DEMUXers  which are very attractive components for WDM systems because of their great flexibility in filter design[4  5]. Basically  an AWG is an optical spectrograph built in planar waveguide technique. Typically  AWGs works in a high grating order (50-250). For AWG multiplexer applications in communications systems a precise wavelength controllability and wavelength stability with long term is demanded. Recently  a polymeric (especially fluorinated polymer with low optical absorption loss in the infrared region) AWG has attracted much attention because of its easy fabrication  low cost possibility and a potential of integration with other polymer devices[6]. Standard AWGs  however  show a change of center wavelength with temperature. A method to prevent this temperature drift is to package the AWG together with a temperature controller in order to tune and fix the desired filter-wavelength. In this paper  a 32-channel AWG was fabricated using a cross-linkable fluorinated poly (ether ether ketone) (FPEEK)  its package technology and environmental stability were also discussed. 2005 IEEE.
