The paper is committed in local image enhancement. At first, the authors propose an adjacent pixel gray order-preserving principle. Adjacent pixel gray order-preserving principle is the basement of local enhancement method which ensures that there is no distortion in processed image. And then, the authors propose an iterative algorithm, which could stretch gray-scale difference of adjacent pixels in premise of not changing gray magnitude relationship between adjacent pixels. At last, the authors propose a totally reference image quality assessment method based on adjacent pixel gray order-preserving principle. According to this quality assessment method, the authors made a set of comparative experiments with local histogram equalization and method. Experimental results show that the proposed enhancement method can get higher score and provide better visual effects, fully demonstrating its effectiveness. According to this quality assessment method, the proposed method shows a good effectiveness, through experimental results and comparison with local histogram equalization method.

According to the disadvantage of the large noises of histogram equalization algorithm  a new adaptive image enhancement algorithm is presented. First  the statistical histogram of the infrared image is done. Then the threshold of plateaus Equalization is calculated and the statistical histogram is modified. Finally the bright values of the pixels of the image are changed. An embedded high speed image enhancement processing system on high performance DSP TMS320DM642 and FPGA was designed. Experimental results with real images shown that the system can improve the contrast of the infrared image  limit the noises of the enhancement image  and effectively enhance the infrared image  the running time of the program is shorter  so it can meet the requirements of real-time in the project. A real-time image defogging processing method based on FPGA is proposed to increase low-contrast of the aerial images in foggy vision conditions. According to the high similarity of the contiguous frame histogram in video image  the histogram equalization algorithm is improved to enhance the image contrast. The median filter algorithm is used to eliminate the noise of the image. The experimental results demonstrate that the method can efficiently enhance the contrast  strengthen the detail and clarify definition for the fog-degraded aerial images. The visibility limit of the images has been increased to a time above. Simultaneously the method satisfies the real-time processing requirement of aerial video images  which has direct applications to the problem of poor visibility conditions. 2010 IEEE.
