Computer-generated holograms (CGH) have been widely used for years in optical testing of aspheric surfaces in combination with Fizeau interferometers. With the development of diffraction optics  computer technology  and micro-processing technology  the accuracy of the CGH testing can achieve a hundredth of a wave  and the cost is reduced greatly. CGH is capable of producing an optical wavefront with any desired shape. So it is fascinating and will have good prospects to test free-form surfaces using CGH. As the CGH can create any wavefront shape  it can also be used in unsymmetrical aspherical surfaces testing. Taking the cubic surface as an example  this paper gives a method to test unsymmetrical surfaces. This paper gives the design to test a cubic surface. And the separation of the diffraction orders and the binary process of the continuous CGH phase function are discussed in detail. The alignment tolerance of the test system and the CGH fabrication tolerance are analyzed. We also present an idea using a CGH and two spherical lenses as null lens to test the cubic surface when the surface deviation is great. 2011 IEEE.

Computer-generated hologram (CGH) is an effective way to compensate wavefront in null test of aspheric surfaces and freeform surfaces. Our strategies of CGH design and fabrication for optical testing are presented  and an experiment demonstrating the compensation results of CGH and null lens is also reported. In order to design complex CGH  software was developed  with which we can design a CGH including three sections: main section for compensating wavefront in null test  alignment section for adjusting the relative position between CGH and interferometer  and fiducial section for projecting fiducial marks around the optics under test. The design result is represented in GDS II format file which could drive a laser-direct-writer- machine to fabricate a photomask. Then  a 1:1 replication process is applied to duplicate the patterns from photomask to a parallel optical substrate whose surface is error better than /60 rms. Finally  an off-axis aspheric surface was tested with CGH and null lens respectively. The test result with CGH (0.019rms) is almost the same as the result with null lens (0.020 rms). This experiment also demonstrated that fiducial marks projected by CGH can be used to guide the alignment of the optics and measurement of its off-axis distance. 2010 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

Aspheres are utilized widely thanks to the development of optical design  manufacture and testing. Compensators are usually necessary when aspheres are under test. The alignment of aspheres and their compensators is a risk because it's tough to check whether the compensators work in right way. A new method of alignment with four poles is put forward in this paper. Optical interval error can be tight while it is quite important due to direct influence on central curvature  conic constant and high order coefficients of aspherical surface. A modified on-axis Foucault apparatus is set up since it makes the optical axis visible and helps to control the error of off-axis amount. Some small holes are drilled in the metallic cell of the compensator so that the ends of poles can be stably relied on in order to increase operational repeatability. The method has been carried out practically and it matches the measurement result given by a set of theodolites. 2009 SPIE.

An infrared-optical zoom system using binary element is proposed in this paper. The two main advantages of the zoom system introducing here are: bigger F-number and lower cost. The primary optical properties are: F/#=1  Second  Others  zoom ratio =1:4  binary element is used to correct the chromatical aberration by taking the advantage of negative dispersion characteristics and the cost of the system is lower than that of conventional ones with Zinc Selenide (Znse) material at the same level. In the binary element is rotational symmetric with one step which is easy to fabricate  in order to balance 5th spherical aberration  and dual field are 26.6 and 5.6respectively. Wider field of view is used for search and the smaller one is used for imaging details. This system uses un-cooled infrared detector with 320240 pixels and 45m pixel size. The F-number matches the sensitivity range of the detector array. Three aspects are considered during design process to make the system more satisfactory and more achievable. First  5th coma aberration and 5th astigmatic aberration  the manner of zoom is accomplished by exchanging tow lenses into the smaller field of view system layout. The lens exchange manner faces the requirement of simple system structure and good image quality in both focal points. It can also make the system more feasible in the alignment process than mechanical-zooming manner and optical-zooming manner  high-order asphere surfaces with 2th order to 10 th order are also hired in the system. Asphere surface is useful in compressing the system and improving optical system transmittance. This kind asphere surface is on industrial level featuring low cost and easy to fabricate. It is shown that good image quality can achieved by implementing five Germanium lenses and the transmittance of system is 72%. All aberrations are diffraction-limited  both spherical aberration and astigmatic aberration are corrected. When the field of view(FOV) is 26.6 and the focal length is 152mm  MTF at Nyquist frequency(11lp/mm) is great than 0.7. The spherical aberration is -0.0073. The coma aberration is 0.0978 and the astigmatic aberration is -0.013. When the field of view(FOV) is 5.6 and the focal length is 38mm  MTF at Nyquist frequency is great than 0.8 with spherical aberration -0.0046  the coma aberration 0.055 and astigmatic aberration 0.034.
