2-Methyl-1,3,6-trihydroxy-9,10-anthraquinone (MTA)
one of the major components isolated from the traditional
Chinese medicine Rubia yunnanensis
exhibited inhibitory activity on the proliferation of several
human cancer cell lines. The results from an annexin V-FITC (fluoresein-5-isothiocyanate) apoptosis assay
and DNA content analysis showed that MTA exerted cytotoxicity via apoptosis induction and G2/M cell cycle
arrest in human cervical carcinoma HeLa cells. Further
MTA was found to induce apoptosis of HeLa cells
through the mitochondria-mediated pathway. It caused the translocation of Bax to the mitochondria and
release of cytochrome c into the cytosol
which caused the cleavage of caspase and poly(ADP-ribose)
polymerase and finally triggered the apoptosis. Furthermore
the p53/p21/Cdc2-cyclin B1 signaling was
found related to the G2/M arrest caused by MTA. The over-expression of p21 and down-expression of
cyclin B1 caused by MTA inactivated the Cdc2-cyclin B1 complex of G2/M checkpoint and finally caused
the G2/M arrest in HeLa cells. This study demonstrated that MTA is a potential anti-cancer component of
R. yunnanensis
a folk anti-cancer herb used in Yunnan
China.

Using of SIFT algorithm in the image of teeth model
can detect the features of the teeth image effectively. In this approach
first
search over all scales and image locations by using a difference-of-Gaussian function to identify potential interest points that are invariant to scale and orientation. Second
select keypoints based on measures of their stability and a detailed model is fit to determine location and scale at each candidate location. Third
assign one or more orientations to each keypoint location based on local image gradient directions. Last
measure the local image gradients at the selected scale in the region around each keypoint. And then use the KNN algorithm to match the features. Through lots of experiments and comparing with other feature extraction methods
this method can detect the features of the teeth model effectively
and offer some available parameters for 3D reconstruction of the teeth model. the authors.

A digital mirror device (DMD) based light projector was developed as the target generator in modulation transfer function (MTF) measurement. In order to overcome the sampling-scene phase effect in MTF measurement of sampled imaging systems
a method using random targets is introduced to yield a phase-averaged MTF. The main potential problem of implementing this method is the fact that the stationary assumption of the random targets may be vitiated in practical measurement
especially in field test due to the ill condition. We provide an efficient model-independent way of analyzing and isolating the spectral contents arising from these additional contributions to MTF measurement. Algorithms with adaptive parameter selection were also developed for spectral estimation of the test image in order to overcome the challenge brought by the size limit of the test matrices for one certain field of view derived from the isoplantic region. The MTF measurement of a CCD video imager is used to demonstrate the measurement technique and illustrate the benefits over other methods. In order to validate the results
comparisons have been made between MTF measurements of imager implemented using this method and bar target direct measurements. 2010 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.
