In ultraviolet spectroscopy  groove irregularity and surface roughness of nanometer magnitude can cause a significant loss of diffraction efficiency. Therefore  there is a constant need to improve the diffraction efficiency. A blazed grating can concentrate most of the light intensity into a desired diffraction order  it is important to control the groove shape precisely  so it is the optimum choice among gratings of different kinds of profile. As the operating wavelength of most UV spectral applications is less than 200 nm  especially the blaze angle and the apical angle. We have presented a direct shaping method to fabricate EUV blazed gratings by using an ion-beam mixture of Ar+ and CHF2 +to etch K9 glass with a rectangular photoresist mask. With this method  the required blaze angle is small  we have succeeded in fabricating well-shaped UV blazed gratings with a 1200 line/mm groove density and 8.54 blaze angles and 1200 line/mm groove density and 11.68 blaze angles  and the metrical efficiency is about 81% and 78%. The good performance of the gratings was verified by diffraction efficiency measurements. When one uses the etching model  the conditions on the ion-beam grazing incident angle and the CHF3partial pressure should be noted. Besides  since the etched groove shape depends on the aspect ratio of the photoresist mask ridge  if we wish to fabricate larger gratings with this method  we must improve the uniformity of the photoresist mask before ion-beam etching. 2011 Copyright Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).

Computer-generated hologram (CGH) is an effective way to compensate wavefront in null test of aspheric surfaces and freeform surfaces. Our strategies of CGH design and fabrication for optical testing are presented  and an experiment demonstrating the compensation results of CGH and null lens is also reported. In order to design complex CGH  software was developed  with which we can design a CGH including three sections: main section for compensating wavefront in null test  alignment section for adjusting the relative position between CGH and interferometer  and fiducial section for projecting fiducial marks around the optics under test. The design result is represented in GDS II format file which could drive a laser-direct-writer- machine to fabricate a photomask. Then  a 1:1 replication process is applied to duplicate the patterns from photomask to a parallel optical substrate whose surface is error better than /60 rms. Finally  an off-axis aspheric surface was tested with CGH and null lens respectively. The test result with CGH (0.019rms) is almost the same as the result with null lens (0.020 rms). This experiment also demonstrated that fiducial marks projected by CGH can be used to guide the alignment of the optics and measurement of its off-axis distance. 2010 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

Silicon carbide (SiC) is a new type candidate material for large-scale lightweight space mirror. Its low thermal distortion  high stiffness  fine optical quality and dimensional stability  make SiC an ideal material for large space born telescope. Since ten years Changchun institute optics  fine mechanics and physics (CIOMP) has developed reaction bonded SiC (RB-SiC) technology for space application  and can fabricate RB-SiC mirror with scale less than 1.0 meter for telescope. The green body is prepared with gel-casting method which is an attractive new ceramic forming process for making high-quality  complex-shaped ceramic parts. And then unmolding  drying  binder burning out  reacting bonded  the RB-SiC can be obtained. But with the development of space-born or ground telescope  the scale of primary mirror has exceeded 1.0 meter. So CIOMP has developed an assembly technique which called novel reaction-formed joint technology for larger RB-SiC mirror blank. The steps include joining of green bodies with mixture comprised of SiC particles and phenolic resin etc  firing  machining and sintering. Joining the 1.2 meter RB-SiC mirror blank by the novel reaction-formed joint technology. And testing the welding layer's performance  the results show that the thickness of 54-77m  the microstructure and thermal property can be comparable to the substrate and the mechanical property are excellent in bending strength of 307MPa. 2010 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

808nm high power diode lasers  which is rapidly maturing technology technically and commercially since the introduction in 1999 of complete kilowatt-scale diode laser systems  have important applications in the fields of industry and pumping solid-state lasers (DPSSL). High power and high power conversion efficiency are extremely important in diode lasers  and they could lead to new applications where space  weight and electrical power are critical. High efficiency devices generate less waste heat  which means less strain on the cooling system and more tolerance to thermal conductivity variation  a lower junction temperature and longer lifetimes. Diode lasers with Al-free materials have superior power conversion efficiency compared with conventional AlGaAs/GaAs devices because of their lower differential series resistance and higher thermal conductivity. 808nm GaAsP/GalnP broad-waveguide emitting diode laser bars with 1mm cavity length have been fabricated. The peak power can reach to 100.9W at 106.5A at quasicontinuous wave operation (200s  1000Hz). The maximum power conversion efficiency is 57.38%. Based on these high power laser bars  we fabricate a 1 3 arrays  the maximum power is 64.3 W in continuous wave mode when the current is 25.0A. And the threshold current is 5.9A  the slope efficiency is 3.37 W/A. 2008 SPIE.
