To solve the best-fit sphere (BFS) accurately is one of the technological keys for the generating and testing of optical aspherical surfaces. This paper presents a new algorithm for solving the BFS of aspherical surfaces to suppress some deficiencies in the existing BFS algorithms. In the proposed approach  it is not only suitable for the conic surface  a BFS is constructed  but also for higher order aspheres. The obtained asphericity and material removal function is more suitable for the machining and test. (2012) Trans Tech Publications  which passes through both sides of endpoints in the section o -?xy of the aspherical surfaces  Switzerland.  the center of the BFS is shifted along the x-axis  and its radius of curvature is automatically computed. The variable step size method is proposed to speed up the convergence of the iteration. Through numerically solving the BFS of conic and cubic surface  the advantages of the proposed approach are verified. The results show that the proposed approach is of rapid convergence  and high accuracy

An artificial pancreas system (APS) mimics the function of a real pancreas through monitoring a diabetic's blood glucose and administering the right dose of insulin via an automatic control loop. It is hailed as a promising cure of diabetes  though this technology is still years away from commercial use due to a few technological bottlenecks. The simulation model of insulin-glucose metabolism of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is an essential part of APS. In order to simplify the parameter identification task so that the model can be implemented electronically with ease  this paper presents a simplified model based on Routh approximation model reduction method. The results show that the approximation error between the simplified model and the original model is so small that can be neglected. Based on the simplified model  a PID controller is designed to maintain normoglycemia (90mg/dl) in subjects with T1DM. The in silico simulation results show that the glucose concentration is controlled well  the risk of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia is reduced a lot. This suggests that the simplified model describes the insulin-glucose metabolism process accurately  and the PID control algorithm is well-suitable to guide the further development of an APS. 2012 IEEE.

With finite element analysis software Moldflow  numerical simulation and studies about FM truck roof handle were conducted on gas-assisted injection molding process. The influences of melt pre-injection shot  gas pressure  delay time and melt temperature were observed by using multi-factor orthogonal experimental method. According to the analysis of the factors' impact on evaluation index  the optimized parameter combination is obtained. Therefore the optimization design of technological parameters is done. The results show that during the gas-assisted injection molding  optimum pre-injection shot is 94%  gas pressure is 15MPa  delay time is 0.5s  melt temperature is 240 C. This study provided a more practical approach for the gas-assisted injection molding process optimization.

A method to prepare high quality SiC coating at low temperature using large aperture E-beam evaporation PVD equipment with ion assistance was developed for the surface modification of SiC mirror for space projects. This method was called Ion Assisted Reactive Evaporation (IARE). The modified SiC coating was prepared using CH4 and Si with Kaufman ion source by IARE at 300C and it had met the requirements of applications. The SiC coating prepared by this method was amorphous. It was dense  homogeneous and easy to be polished. The surface modification of a SiC mirror was carried out using SiC coating by this method and achieved a fine surface modification effect. The surface roughness (rms) of the SiC substrate was reduced to 0.862nm  the scattering coefficient was reduced to 2.79% and the reflectance coated with Ag film was improved simultaneously after the surface modification. The effect of surface modification using SiC coating was close to that of using Si coating. It can be drawn that this technological method to preparation SiC coating for the surface modification of SiC mirror is reasonable and effective. 2011 SPIE.

In this paper  we are presenting a design method and its results for a space optical system with high resolution and wide field of view. This optical system can be used both in infrared and visible configurations. The designing of this system is based on an on-axis three-mirror anastigmatic (TMA) system. Here the on-axis concept allows wide field of view (FOV) enabling a diversity of designs available for the Multi-Object Spectrometer instruments optimized for low scattered and low emissive light. The available FOVs are upto 1 in both spectrum ranges  whereas the available aperture range is F/15 - F/10. The final optical system is a three-mirror telescope with two on-axis and one off-axis segment and its resolution is 0.3m or even lower. The distinguished feature of this design is that it maintains diffraction-limited image at wide wavelengths. The technological developments in the field of computer generated shaping of large-sized optical surface details with diffraction-limited imagery have opened new avenues towards the designing techniques. Such techniques permit us to expand these technological opportunities to fabricate the aspherical off-axis mirrors for a complex configuration.
