Comparing with optical remote sensing techniques  passive remote sensing data have been proved to be effective for observing snowpack parameters such as snow depth and snow water equivalent  which can penetrate snowpack without clouds interferences. The Microwave Radiation Imager (MWRI) loaded on the Chinese FengYun-3B (FY-3B) satellite is gradually used in the global environment research through November  2011. In this paper  we proposed a snow depth retrieval algorithm to estimate snow depth in Northeast China using MWRI passive microwave remote sensing data. A decision tree method of snow identification was firstly designed to distinguish different snow cover conditions in order to eliminate other interference signals. After using the proposed decision tree method  the processing results were further used to retrieve the snow depth in Northeast China. Finally  the practical snow depth data and the MODIS data were collected for the accuracy assessment of the proposed snow depth retrieval method. The experimental results demonstrated that the RMSE of snow depth used the proposed method was approximately 3 cm in Northeast China. 2012 SPIE.

The nonlinear response of the PZT for the integrating bucket method is studied by our proposed method: discrete chirp Fourier transform (DCFT) and maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) techniques for the integrating bucket method. Based on the signal processing theory  the intensity obtained from CCD is processed by the DCFT and thus nonlinear response and chirp coefficient of the PZT can be coarsely estimated. This is followed by the MLE method  in which an iterative optimization process is complemented for accurately estimating the nonlinear response and chirp coefficient of the PZT. One key advantage of the proposed method is that not only the nonlinear response and chirp coefficient of the PZT can be acquired  but also initial phase acquired. Our method is tested by simulating conditions under which a certain magnitude of nonlinearity is assumed. Nonlinear response attained by the DCFT is compared to that attained by the MLE  and a difference between the actual nonlinear response of the PZT and our accurate estimation by the proposed method is revealed. Several factors that will have influence on the nonlinear response of the PZT are discussed. 2010 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

The surface profile of Wolter type-I mirror has a great impact on the performance of Solar X-ray Telescope. According to the existing fabrication instrument and experimental conditions in our lab  an in situ Long Trace Profiler is developed and set up on the fabrication instrument in order to measure the surface profile of Wolter mirror in real time during fabrication process. Its working mechanism  structural parameters and data processing algorithm are investigated. The prototype calibrated by a standard plane mirror is used to measure a sample of Wolter type-I mirror. The results show that our prototype can achieve an accuracy of 2.6rad rms for slope error with a stability of 1.33rad during the whole measurement period. A real-time image defogging processing method based on FPGA is proposed to increase low-contrast of the aerial images in foggy vision conditions. According to the high similarity of the contiguous frame histogram in video image  the histogram equalization algorithm is improved to enhance the image contrast. The median filter algorithm is used to eliminate the noise of the image. The experimental results demonstrate that the method can efficiently enhance the contrast  strengthen the detail and clarify definition for the fog-degraded aerial images. The visibility limit of the images has been increased to a time above. Simultaneously the method satisfies the real-time processing requirement of aerial video images  which has direct applications to the problem of poor visibility conditions. 2010 IEEE.

Image segmentation is primary issue in image processing  at the same time it is principal problem in low level vision in computer vision field. It is the key technology to process image analysis  image comprehend and image depict successfully. Aim at measurement of granularity size of nonmetal grain  a new algorithm of image segmentation and parameters calculation for overlapping grain image is studied. The hypostasis of this algorithm is present some new attributes of graph sequence from discrete attribute of graph  consequently achieve that pick up the geometrical characteristics from input graph  and new graph sequence which in favor of image segmentation is recombined. The conception that image edge denoted with "twin-point" is put forward  base on geometrical characters of point  image edge is transformed into serial edge  and on recombined serial image edge  based on direction vector definition of line and some additional restricted conditions  the segmentation twin-points are searched with  thus image segmentation is accomplished. Serial image edge is transformed into twin-point pattern  to realize calculation of area and granularity size of nonmetal grain. The inkling and uncertainty on selection of structure element which base on mathematical morphology are avoided in this algorithm  and image segmentation and parameters calculation are realized without changing grain's self statistical characters.

The geometrical Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) of CMOS APS (active pixel sensor) is analyzed in this paper. Advanced APS have been designed and fabricated where different pixel shapes such as square  rectangle and L shape  were placed  because the amplifier circuit and other function circuits inter pixel of APS take up some pixel area. MTF is an important figure of merit in focal plane array imaging sensors. Research on analyzing the MTF for the proper pixel shape is currently in progress for a centroidal configuration of a target position. MTF will give us a more complete understanding of the tradeoffs opposed by the different pixel designs and by the signal processing conditions. Based on image sensor sampling and reconstructing model  the MTF expression of any active pixel shape has been deduced in this paper. According to actual pixel shape  three different active area pixels were analyzed  they were square  rectangle  and L shape  their Fill Factor (FF) is 30%  44% and 55%  respectively. Results of simulation experiments indicate that different pixel geometrical characteristics contribute significantly to the figures of their MTF. Different geometrical shape of active sensitive area of pixel and different station in pixel would influence MTF figures. The analysis results are important in designing better APS pixel and more important in analyzing imaging system performance of APS subpixel precision system.
