In order to determination of cholesterol in human serum with no reagent using nearinfrared (NIR) spectroscopy. Interval partial least square (iPLS) was proposed as an effective variable selection approach for multivariate calibration. For this purpose  an independent sample set was employed to evaluate the prediction ability of the resulting model. The spectrum was split into different interval. Then  the informative region of cholesterol (1688-1760nm)  in which the PLS model has a low RMSEP with 0.241mmol/L and a high R with 0.975  is selected with 23 intervals. The results indicate that  the informative region of cholesterol can be obtained by iPLS and applied to design the simpler reagentless NIR instruments for inexpensive cholesterol measurement in future. To the characteristic of the ultraviolet CCD (UV ICCD)  technique of the linearity measurement of the UV ICCD camera is studied based on the theory of radiometry. Approach of linearity measurement is discussed  and a kind of measurement system of the UV ICCD has been developed based on the method of neutral density filter. It is very important that the transmittance of the filter is independent of the wavelength in the method of neutral density filter. Black metal screen mesh with different transmittance is used in our system  and calibration of the filters' transmittance in different working positions has been done. Meanwhile  to assure the uniform of the received radiation on the target of the detector at any test points  an integrating sphere is placed behind the neutral filter to balance light. The whole measurement system mainly consists of a deuterium lamp with high stabilization  the attenuation film with transmission  integrating sphere  optical guide and electro-shift platform. Auto control is realized via special software during the test. With this instrument  the linearity of the UV ICCD was measured. Experimental results show that the nonlinearity of the UV ICCD under fixed-gain is less than 2% and the uncertainty of measurement system is less than 4%. 2010 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

Many applications  such as industrial inspection and overhead reconnaissance benefit from line scanning architectures where time delay integration (TDI) significantly improves sensitivity[5]. Images with linear response have become the backbone of the imaging industry. But each pixel of the TDI CCD has unique light sensitivity characteristics. Because these characteristics and the lens of the optical system affect camera's linearization and its performance  they must be removed through calibration. The process by which a CCD image is calibrated is known as nonuniformity correction. This paper discusses several methods of nonuniformity correction[2]. The first is one-point correction technique  which requires only one calibration point. This approach is to shift each curve toward the nominal curve by subtracting the offset from or adding the offset to the average. The second is two-point correction technique  which requires two calibration points. Each point is rotated and aligned so that all the detectors have the same response under the same radiance. The third is multipoint correction. It is recommended that more calibration points be implemented at appropriate regions of the response curve. Depend on the linear photoelectric response of the TDI CCD  we use two-point calibration and the standard deviations for the images are given before and after the correction.
